The true power of the Social Web

Have you been to blog.seesmic.com?  There you’ll find a nicely concise and informative video series, by Loic Le Meur, about building your own brand via the social web. There is some good information in there, and I appreciate that Loic steers you towards being authentic rather than using gimmicks.

Ultimately though this is what it got me thinking:

Everyone has something to say that, for someone in the world, will make their day a bit brighter. Everyone has something to share that someone in the world will find valuable.

The social web is there to connect you to those who can benefit from you being you. Developing a brand via the social web isn’t about being an attention whore. It isn’t about marketing your brand and “profit for profit’s sake”.

Creating a social web presence is beyond marketing your brand. If you do it well and with the right intent, your brand will begin to market itself. If you then want to plug that into the more conventional marketing paradigm, great… but we are accelerating towards a threshold past which the old paradigm is no longer relevant.

The social web is about learning how to express what you have to share with humanity in the way(s) that will let the most people who need it find it! Find your tribe, and help your tribe find you.
